Computing science encompasses a wide array of disciplines, including programming, engineering large software systems, designing human-computer interfaces, developing algorithms, managing computer and network systems, advancing artificial intelligence, and handling information retrieval and big data. In 2017, the School of Computing Science established the innovative Centre for Computing Science Education to highlight its commitment to leadership and innovation in educational practices.Physics involves the experimental and theoretical study of matter and energy interactions, ranging from elementary particles and nuclear physics to atomic physics, the physics of solids, and the origins of the universe. Many of our staff lead major international research efforts, such as the Large Hadron Collider at CERN and the LIGO gravitational wave observatory.
