About the course

Classics encompasses the literature, history, art, and material culture of ancient Greece and Rome, with Latin and/or Greek language study available at all levels. Philosophy systematically addresses profound questions on knowledge, life, morality, science, and human nature through reason and argument. At the University of Glasgow, students can visit archaeological sites and museums in Italy and Greece, with Honours students eligible for up to three weeks abroad (typically post-year 3 summer) and financial support for Single Honours. Year 3 options include study abroad in Europe (e.g., Athens, Rome), Australia, New Zealand, or North America. The university hosts Highland reading parties and a vibrant undergraduate Philosophy Society. Classics and Philosophy graduates pursue diverse careers in heritage, teaching, consultancy, finance, publishing, law, accountancy, museums, libraries, civil service, and IT. Transferable skills include critical analysis, precise writing, and questioning assumptions. Recent Philosophy roles include recruitment consultant at Hydrogen Group, TV researcher at Hopscotch Films, audience editor at The Guardian, and Civil Service fast track (Treasury/MoD).
