About the course

Classics encompasses the literature, history, art, and material culture of ancient Greece and Rome, with Latin and/or Greek available at any level. Studying Italian provides access to the language and culture of a pivotal EU nation central to Europe’s political and artistic evolution. At the University of Glasgow, students visit archaeological sites and museums in Italy and Greece. Honours students receive financial support for a three-week summer trip to such sites worldwide. Year 3 offers study abroad in Europe (e.g., Athens, Rome), Australia, New Zealand, or North America. Italian instruction features small groups led by native speakers and robust library resources for advanced fluency. Graduates pursue diverse careers in heritage, teaching, consultancy, finance, publishing, law, accountancy, and academia, including roles in museums, libraries, civil service, IT, media, journalism, tourism, translation, and business.
