About the course

Archaeology examines human interactions with their world through objects, sites, monuments, and landscapes. The program also explores English literature from early modern to postmodern eras, drawing on expertise in American, Irish, postcolonial literatures, critical theory, creative writing, and interdisciplinary connections with arts, media, and science. At the University of Glasgow, students gain practical fieldwork skills via UK and international excavations in Europe and the Near East, including fieldtrips, staff research projects, and placements with heritage organizations. Access to the Hunterian collection and Special Collections enhances learning. Graduates acquire transferable skills like teamwork, problem-solving, and critical analysis, valued in banking, law, business, tourism, and vocational roles with agencies such as Historic Environment Scotland, National Trust for Scotland, and commercial archaeology firms.
