Curating, BA (Hons)

Our BA in Curating delivers a strong foundation in key art history developments, focusing on the history and theory of exhibition design and how curatorial decisions influence viewer experiences in museums and galleries. Through regular staff-led visits to London institutions, students explore current curating trends and are encouraged to undertake placements for hands-on insight into museum, auction house, or gallery operations. To prepare for 21st-century challenges, the programme includes opportunities to build digital skills, such as curating an online exhibition with a virtual walkthrough and accessible interpretive materials for displayed objects. Students also gain access to the Essex Collection of Art from Latin America (ESCALA), Europe’s largest such collection, for practical experimentation in artwork installation.Many courses feature optional modules to customize your studies, with detailed information available on the University of Essex website.
