Our BA in Modern History with a Placement Year explores the transformative events since the French Revolution of 1789, examining why nations rose or fell, the effects of empire, and struggles for social justice. Taught by internationally recognised historians, the programme covers global developments—from the Soviet Union to modern Japan—and includes topics like propaganda and landscape history. You'll develop skills in interpreting sources and communicating ideas, with flexibility to select optional modules in your second and fourth years, tailoring your studies to your interests.During your third year, you'll undertake a 9-12 month placement to gain practical experience and enhance employability in areas such as heritage or government.
