About the course

Our BSc in Mathematics is designed for those intrigued by mathematical complexity and logical reasoning, fostering advanced knowledge and skills essential for fields like science, technology, and finance. The programme offers a flexible structure, allowing students to blend modules in pure and applied mathematics, statistics, and related disciplines from other schools, such as Environmental Sciences or Computing Sciences. You will build on foundational topics like calculus and set theory in the first year, progressing to specialised areas including Combinatorics and Mathematical Biology, with opportunities for tailored studies and an individual project.Lecturers, who are active researchers, deliver world-leading insights in small classes, ensuring a deep grasp of the subject. Graduates pursue diverse careers in accountancy, banking, statistics, and data analysis, with the option to advance to a four-year Master of Mathematics programme. Note that course details may change; verify on www.uea.ac.uk.

What you will learn

In Year 1 you will study a range of compulsory topics which will provide you with a strong foundation in a number of maths topics such as calculus, set theory and complex numbers. While some topics will follow on from your A-Level studies, other topics will be completely new. As your studies progress, you will be able to choose from a range of modules such as Combinatorics, Mathematical Biology and the History of Mathematics. You will also have the chance to complete an individual project of your choice with the guidance and support of a faculty member.
