This course examines the roles of galleries and museums in contemporary society, exploring how they influence our understanding of art. Participants will engage with these themes through hands-on experiences at a major art institution, delving into the history of art across cultures and the evolving relationship between culture and society, from past eras to the future.Based at the renowned Sainsbury Centre in Norwich, students join a unique community within the UK's only Art History Department housed in a world-class museum. The program covers the politics and practices of displaying diverse collections, including contemporary art and heritage sites, while addressing the roles of curators, conservators, and educators. Learners will study objects, artworks, and collecting processes, gaining insights from experts and connecting with international networks.
