About the course

This degree provides an in-depth exploration of art history as a global phenomenon, from prehistory to the present. Based in the renowned Sainsbury Centre, students join a unique community as the only UK Art History Department situated within a world-class museum. The program engages with diverse artworks from Europe, Africa, Asia, Oceania, and the Americas through an interdisciplinary approach, examining how art is created, collected, and exhibited across eras. A year-long work placement enhances learning, offering practical experience and employability skills in relevant fields.Set in historic Norwich, the course allows immersion in the Sainsbury Centre's collections, designed by Norman Foster, and learning from world-leading experts in areas like the climate crisis in art, postcolonial discourse, medieval cultures, photography, and curation. As part of an international network, including the Sainsbury Research Unit and Institute, students connect with museums, paving the way for careers in cultural, creative, and heritage sectors.
