About the course

Our BA in Geography and Global Development with a Placement Year provides an innovative interdisciplinary approach to examining global inequalities, colonialism, globalisation, urbanisation, and deindustrialisation. This programme combines core human and social geography modules, focusing on critical issues like poverty, inequality, race, health, migration, and environmental challenges, while emphasising the relationship between people, place, and social justice. In your third year, gain hands-on experience through a dedicated placement year, alongside practical training in Geographical Information Systems (GIS), qualitative and quantitative methods, and fieldwork opportunities, including local trips and international partnerships. The course offers a broad foundation in development studies, drawing from geography, anthropology, economics, environmental sciences, media, and politics, with options to specialise in regions such as sub-Saharan Africa, South Asia, or Latin America. Its flexible structure allows you to tailor your studies to your interests within a vibrant academic community at UEA, known for excellence in development research and teaching. Graduates pursue rewarding careers in development and beyond. Note that course details are subject to change; please verify on www.uea.ac.uk.
