English Literature and Drama explore how characters, stories, and expressions foster self-reflection and the imagining of new worlds through language, imagery, and imagination. This degree enables study in two distinguished departments, where students learn from researchers, writers, artists, and critics. It covers writing and criticism across prose, poetry, and drama, while teaching how to perform texts, spanning literature from ancient epics to modern genres and global theatre practices on page, stage, and screen.Students will engage in theatre-making, writing, and production in the professional Drama Studio, supported by the student-run Minotaur Theatre Company for hands-on experience in performance, technical skills, and scriptwriting. In Norwich, access to a vibrant arts scene—including Norwich Theatre and the National Centre for Writing—enhances opportunities. The program develops skills for careers in theatre, film, writing, criticism, and other fields. For the BA with Placement Year, students undertake a 9-12 month third-year placement for practical experience. Course details are subject to change; confirm on www.uea.ac.uk.
