British and American writers share a common language, readership, and cultural references, yet they exhibit distinct differences. Our English and American Literature degree at the University of East Anglia (UEA) examines these connections and contrasts. Based in Norwich, a UNESCO City of Literature with a thriving writing community, students engage with renowned experts in American Studies and Creative Writing. The programme covers works from Chaucer and Shakespeare to modern authors like Leslie Marmon Silko, Colson Whitehead, and Terrance Hayes, allowing for personalised study through specialist modules and bespoke research projects. This three-year course equips students with the tools to analyse Anglo-American literary traditions, supported by UEA Live, an acclaimed literary festival featuring speakers such as Ian McEwan, Kazuo Ishiguro, Toni Morrison, and Zadie Smith. Graduates pursue diverse careers in research, teaching, journalism, publishing, NGOs, PR, and marketing. Course details may change; verify on www.uea.ac.uk.
