About the course

Developmental psychology examines cognitive, emotional, and social growth, especially during infancy, childhood, and adolescence. This programme integrates core psychology studies with developmental insights into cognition and behaviour, allowing students to explore diverse theories, research evidence, and critical evaluation skills in a research-led environment. At UEA's School of Psychology, ranked 14th for research quality in Psychology, Psychiatry, and Neuroscience (Times Higher Education REF 2021), students receive support from academic advisors and university wellbeing teams, with options to select modules on typical and atypical development, such as autism spectrum disorder, ADHD, and giftedness. Flexibility includes switching pathways in the first year and undertaking a work-based placement in the third year.In the final year, access to advanced facilities like the Developmental Dynamics Lab and virtual reality suite enables hands-on experience and an individual research project. Ideal for careers in child and adolescent psychology, educational psychology, teaching, or family support, the course provides a strong foundation for postgraduate studies in developmental science, along with career planning resources.
