Animation, BA (Hons)

At the University of Derby, our BA (Hons) Animation programme offers hands-on exploration of cutting-edge digital software, foundational animation principles, and the creation of unique animated films, alongside building essential professional skills for career launch. In our state-of-the-art production studio, guided by experienced faculty, students develop expertise through both traditional and digital techniques, experimenting with diverse methods like hand-drawn animation and 3D digital processes to cultivate individual styles and visions.The curriculum covers drawing, sequential imaging, 2D/3D animation, character development, narrative, sound, and historical contexts, preparing students for roles in storytelling, social commentary, documentaries, music videos, and advertising. Through live projects, competitions, and industry visits from professionals like BAFTA-nominated Fettle, students gain real-world experience. The programme emphasises practical work integrating technical, analytical, and organisational skills, complemented by workshops, critiques, and tutorials, culminating in a graduation film for festivals.
