Our programme explores the full spectrum of human-animal relationships, including wild animal behaviour and studies of companion, domestic, and captive exotic animals. As an interdisciplinary field, Animal Behaviour examines how evolutionary history and environmental factors influence biology and behaviour, setting it apart from our Zoology degree by incorporating psychology courses in the first two years. This unique offering combines biology and psychology to analyse behaviour from perspectives such as evolution, development, mechanisms, and adaptive significance, with exclusive opportunities to engage with diverse species through partnerships like Edinburgh Zoo.The curriculum balances theory and practice, with about one-third of class time dedicated to hands-on activities, including field trips and residential excursions that foster practical skills and networking. Students actively participate in research, culminating in independent projects in Year 4 that can shape career paths. Innovative teaching methods, such as problem-based learning and assessments like essays, practicals, and exams, enhance employability. Opportunities for study abroad, work placements, and professional accreditation from the Royal Society of Biology further enrich the experience.
