About the course

Our BA (Hons) Fashion Photography degree at UCA Epsom equips students to become innovative artists in the fashion industry. By creating images inspired by personal experiences and global issues, participants develop a unique voice while building strong foundations in photography and fashion imaging. The course encourages multidisciplinary approaches, fostering collaboration, critical thinking, and the use of emerging technologies to produce creative works that align with industry needs and contemporary perspectives.Students are guided by experienced academics and industry professionals through a transformative journey. In Year 1, they explore cultural, social, and political influences on imagery and consumer choices. Year 2 focuses on conceptual development, technical skills, and narrative in moving images. Year 3 culminates in a substantial body of work and a dissertation, alongside related options like BA (Hons) Fashion Image & Styling or Photography with Professional Practice Year.

What you will learn

In Year 1 you'll consider the significance of environments from a variety of cultural, social and political perspectives. You'll explore questions of gender, sexuality, ethnicity, morality, social position and individual representation influence consumer choice. You'll also examine the constructed nature of images and the creation of meaning through various modes of visual production and presentation. In Year 2 you'll build concepts for fashion firms the learn the technical and professional skills necessary to realise those concepts and successfully promote fashion through moving image. You'll explore narrative conventions through a series of contextual lectures and technical workshops, and you'll consider your practice in relation to audiences, publication and the dissemination of photographic work. In Year 3 you'll draw upon the skills you've gained to produce a significant body of work, as well as a dissertation.
