About the course

Pharmacology involves the scientific exploration of drugs and their effects on biological systems, from genes and cells to tissues and entire populations. A drug is defined as any substance administered to humans or animals to alter bodily functions, such as relieving pain, treating cancer, combating infections, or enhancing health. Additionally, pharmacology employs drugs as tools to investigate cellular and physiological processes in both healthy and diseased states. In the UCD Pharmacology course, students can participate in drug development research.
