About the course

Sheffield’s four-year Software Engineering MEng extends our BSc degrees, offering advanced specialisation through industrial experience via Genesys, our student-led software development organisation. Students engage with real customers, learn agile practices, and master tools used in industry. The programme provides a strong foundation in software engineering fundamentals, computer science, and artificial intelligence, while teaching state-of-the-art design, programming, project management, teamwork, and customer collaboration. In the third year, students focus on software testing and analysis for robust systems, with optional modules in areas like cybersecurity and mobile devices. The final year includes advanced topics in verification, testing, and computer security, plus continued involvement in Genesys to solve real problems using agile and lean startup methods. This course equips graduates with practical skills, access to cutting-edge facilities, and comprehensive support, preparing them for dynamic careers in software engineering.
