Our three-year BSc Biochemistry course at Sheffield investigates the structure and function of biological systems at the molecular level, exploring cells, proteins, DNA, and their interactions that sustain life. Integrating biology and chemistry, you will study proteins, enzymes, hormones, and receptors, applying biochemistry to global challenges like sustainable food production, healthy ageing, and drug design. In labs, gain hands-on experience in molecular genetics, DNA manipulation, and protein analysis; outside, develop IT solutions for issues such as heritable diseases.Encouraged to think creatively and independently, you can specialize in biochemistry, genetics, microbiology, or biotechnology, building practical and transferable skills like project management, problem-solving, data analysis, and communication. Culminate in a third-year research project in lab work, modelling, education, or communication. Accredited by the Royal Society of Biology, options include an integrated MBiolSci or a placement year for enhanced employability.
