Films have served as essential cultural outputs for over a century, with their production and distribution contexts evolving continuously. Nonetheless, their role as vital records of contemporary society endures, alongside the enjoyment they provide to global audiences and their potential to shape perspectives. At Liverpool, Film Studies offers an opportunity to engage with esteemed scholars in film cultures and industries worldwide, delivering a comprehensive and rigorous academic programme. Our students exhibit a keen interest in global cultures and seek to understand how these are expressed through cinema. We foster independent learning through dedicated resources, including an extensive film library, e-learning tools, and extracurricular activities. This programme includes options for a Year in China or a Year Abroad. The Year in China allows undergraduates to spend a year at Xi'an Jiaotong-Liverpool University (XJTLU) in Suzhou, an English-speaking institution, pursuing BA China Studies courses. Alternatively, the Year Abroad enables study at international partner universities, focusing on cultural and disciplinary modules. Applications for these options can be made upon arrival at Liverpool.
