About the course

The aerospace engineering curriculum covers key topics such as aerodynamics, aero structures, flight dynamics and control, propulsion systems, communications, avionics, and aircraft materials. Programmes feature a two-day flight test course in a Jetstream aircraft and are double accredited by the Royal Aeronautical Society and the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, fulfilling academic requirements for Chartered Engineer registration. This programme mirrors the H425 and H421 degrees but incorporates pilot studies for aspiring pilots, including a Year One module based on the Private Pilot Licence syllabus with mandatory 20 hours of flight training, and a Year Two module aligned with the Air Transport Pilot Licence syllabus.Students are encouraged to pursue work experience through summer internships or a year-long placement to boost employability, with MEng and BEng programmes offering industry options. While the School of Engineering provides support, securing a placement is the student's responsibility and not guaranteed due to high competition; unsuccessful students revert to the standard programme. Overseas students may apply, subject to restrictions.
