Aerospace engineering programmes cover key topics such as aerodynamics, aero structures, flight dynamics and control, propulsion systems, communications, avionics, and aircraft materials. These degrees are double accredited by the Royal Aeronautical Society and the Institute of Mechanical Engineers, and include a two-day flight test course in a Jetstream aircraft. The curriculum is similar to programmes H425 and H421 but incorporates pilot studies for those aspiring to become pilots. In Year One, the pilot studies module, based on the Private Pilot Licence (PPL) ground school syllabus, complements a mandatory 20-hour flight training programme. In Year Two, it aligns with the Air Transport Pilot Licence (ATPL) ground school syllabus.Students are encouraged to pursue work experience through summer internships or a year-long placement to boost employability. The School of Engineering offers MEng and BEng programmes with a year in industry, available to all students, including overseas ones (subject to restrictions). While support is provided, securing a placement is the student's responsibility, and such opportunities are competitive and not guaranteed. Those unable to obtain a placement will revert to the standard programme.
