About the course

Social anthropology examines human behaviour and cognition, exploring the vast social, cultural, and political differences among global societies while highlighting the shared humanity beneath these variations. It maintains strong connections with fields such as sociology, human geography, development studies, history, archaeology, and philosophy. In the first two years, students engage in a wide array of courses to build a solid foundation in anthropology, including opportunities for research. In years three and four, they advance their knowledge and skills through specialised optional courses and a self-designed dissertation, which is based on up to four months of individual fieldwork, conducted either in the UK or abroad.
