Social anthropology examines human behavior and cognition, exploring the vast social, cultural, and political differences across global societies while emphasizing the shared humanity beneath these variations. It maintains strong connections with disciplines such as sociology, human geography, development studies, history, archaeology, and philosophy. In the first two years, students undertake a broad range of courses to establish a solid foundation in anthropology, including opportunities for research. In years three and four, they advance their knowledge through optional advanced courses and complete a self-designed dissertation. Between these years, students conduct a four-month individual research project, with fieldwork possible in the UK or abroad.
