Approximately 150 million people worldwide speak Russian, the official language of four countries and widely understood in Eastern Europe and Central Asia, with large communities in China, the US, Israel, and Western Europe. This four-year joint honours programme in Russian Studies and English Language combines cultural exploration of Russian—developing advanced speaking, reading, writing, listening, and translation skills from beginner level—with linguistic analysis of English's structure, historical changes, variations (including Scots, dialects, and international forms), and comparisons to other languages. Pre-honours years (1-2) provide core grounding plus optional courses; Year 3 is abroad for immersion; Year 4 offers tailored studies and a dissertation. Graduates gain fluency, broad cultural education, and specialist skills valued by employers, joining Scotland's oldest such programme with access to societies and exceptional libraries.
