About the course

The foundational concepts of Western society emerged in ancient Greek and Latin, alongside Russian, an East Slavic language central to influential literary and cultural works. Studying Russian and Classics fosters a deeper understanding of the contemporary world and historical contexts, while our flexible joint honours programme connects students to Russian-speaking communities in China, Central Asia, and the United States. In Russian studies, students develop advanced skills in speaking, writing, reading, listening, and translation, with tailored Year 1 courses for all levels. Over four years, they explore Russian literature, culture, and international politics. For Classics, participants engage with pivotal ancient scholarship and literature, choosing a Latin, Greek, or non-language pathway. Edinburgh, a world-leading festival city with World Heritage Sites, provides an ideal setting for this interdisciplinary education, equipping graduates with valued cultural knowledge and employability skills.
