About the course

This comprehensive joint honours programme allows you to explore two prominent European languages, French and Russian, within their global cultural frameworks. Both are among the world's top 10 most spoken languages and have exerted significant international influence. Through rigorous language training, including a period abroad, you will develop advanced oral and written proficiency in both. Alongside language courses, you will examine francophone and russophone cultures from the Middle Ages to the present, covering topics such as literature, cinema, political history, social movements, and philosophy.Edinburgh, as a vibrant world-leading festival city, provides an ideal setting for cultural language studies. Uniquely in Scotland, our four-year honours programme includes a full academic year abroad, whether for study or work. The curriculum is flexible, with optional courses in various disciplines during Years 1 and 2, followed by specialisation in later years. Graduates gain a broad arts and humanities education combined with expertise in two modern languages, highly valued by global employers.
