The English language boasts a documented history spanning over 1,000 years, with its evolution evident in sources such as medieval manuscripts, text messages, and recordings of spoken English. Through modern linguistic techniques, students will examine the structure of both written and spoken forms, investigating how the language has transformed throughout history.In addition to studying linguistic change, the course emphasizes variations of English, including Scots, distinct dialects, and international forms. Participants will explore contemporary English and Scots, highlighting similarities and differences with other languages.
