The Bachelor of Optometry (BOptom) programme encompasses Clinical Optometry and Vision Science, including foundational physical and life sciences related to the visual system. Students gain in-depth knowledge of optics, vision anatomy and physiology, ocular pharmacology, pathology, therapeutics, and immunology.New Zealand's sole BOptom degree—and one of only eight Australasian programmes accredited by the Optometry Council of Australia and New Zealand—it enables registration as an optometrist qualified to diagnose and treat eye diseases in both countries. Highlights include clinical and business skills for private practice or public health, honours completion option, and development of communication, empathy, and problem-solving skills for diverse groups like children, the elderly, and partially sighted individuals. Entry is via undergraduate (from University of Auckland BSc or University of Otago HSFY, after year 1/2) or graduate categories.
