About the course

A Sociology degree at Swansea University provides a strong theoretical base for understanding human behavior within broader social, cultural, political, and economic contexts. Students develop skills in qualitative and quantitative research, communication, and critical analysis, enabling them to address complex societal issues. The program ranks highly, including top 15 in the UK for teaching quality (Times Good University Guide 2024) and top 20 for student satisfaction (Complete University Guide 2024), with 92% of graduates employed or in further study 15 months post-graduation (HESA 2023).The curriculum emphasizes real-world applications in areas like health, social care, and education, fostering a 'sociological imagination' and transferable skills valued by employers. It includes compulsory modules in the first year, such as Individual and Society, and optional ones later, like Sociology of Health and Illness, culminating in an independent dissertation. Assessment varies, incorporating group tasks, presentations, and reflections, alongside opportunities for work placements in diverse settings to enhance career prospects.
