About the course

A BSc in Sociology and Psychology provides rigorous scientific training in the interplay between the mind, brain, and behaviour, alongside a solid theoretical foundation for understanding social interactions. Students explore psychological and neuro-scientific processes underlying cognition, memory, language, and health behaviours, while learning to conduct research using qualitative and quantitative methods. This develops strong skills in analysis, writing, numeracy, and ICT, with teaching delivered through lectures, seminars, workshops, and practical classes. The course is accredited by the British Psychological Society, granting eligibility for Graduate Membership upon achieving a 2:2 or higher. The curriculum spans three years, covering topics such as statistics, cognition, social problems, brain and behaviour, and global sociology. Year one introduces foundational concepts; year two delves into advanced issues like moral controversies; and year three focuses on independent projects, including gender studies and lifespan development. Assessment involves scheduled lectures, tutorials, and self-directed study, culminating in collaborative research that may lead to publications or conference presentations.
