About the course

Our Politics and International Relations with a Year in Industry degree equips students with expertise in domestic politics—such as political theory, elections, and parliaments—as well as international relations, including security studies and conflict. It explores intersecting topics like environmental politics, global political economy, and international development. The programme is highly regarded, ranking 6th in the UK for teaching and 3rd for student voice (NSS 2023), with 92% of graduates employed or in further activities 15 months after leaving (HESA 2023).The course begins with foundational modules in the first year, progressing to specialised options in the second and a self-directed dissertation in the final year. Students can participate in a unique Parliamentary Studies module, including a visit to Westminster, and spend a year abroad to enhance skills. Assessment includes presentations, essays, and group work, fostering strong research and analytical abilities. Graduates pursue careers in government, education, media, and more.
