About the course

Our four-year BA in Modern Languages with Education programme focuses on developing proficiency in French, German, or Spanish, alongside specialist studies in digital learning and technology-enhanced education. Students undertake a year abroad via a paid British Council placement or at a partner university, gaining valuable experiences that enhance employability. Additional opportunities include school or community placements, and modules on curriculum, assessment, and wellbeing. Access to language labs, weekly cafes, and societies like the French or Hispanic clubs enriches the experience, with the programme ranked 6th in the UK (Guardian University Guide 2024) and research rated internationally excellent. The curriculum mixes compulsory and optional modules, such as "What is Teaching and Learning?" and language courses, with options for an independent dissertation in the final year. Assessment methods include exams, essays, presentations, and group work, fostering research and communication skills. Graduates secure roles in education, translation, journalism, and beyond, supported by transferable skills. For details, visit our webpage.
