About the course

We are facing a climate emergency, with rapid changes to our climate and environments causing severe impacts on natural ecosystems and threatening the lives of current and future generations. This innovative interdisciplinary BSc in Environmental Science and Climate Emergency, offered by Swansea University, draws on the strengths of the Biosciences and Geography departments to prepare graduates with a deep understanding of environmental and social sciences. Students will develop skills to drive adaptations, mitigations, and solutions, supported by exceptional fieldwork opportunities in nearby areas like the Gower Peninsula and Bannau Brycheiniog. The programme emphasises practical learning through academic, laboratory, and field-based activities, alongside modules in climate change, ecology, conservation, and social justice. The degree includes early compulsory modules on global environmental shifts, allowing students to personalise their studies with optional modules in human and physical geography, and a year abroad at a partner institution. Assessment involves a mix of lectures, seminars, practical classes, fieldwork, examinations, coursework, and a final-year dissertation. We guarantee conditional offers for eligible applicants; visit an Open Day or contact us for more details.

What you will learn

Following early compulsory modules including the earth’s changing face, global environmental change, and global shifts, you will be able to craft your own personalised path throughout the degree. You will study abroad at a partner institution in your third year. You will select from a wide range of optional modules, with the chance to mix human and physical geography modules, leading to a dissertation in your final year.
