About the course

Swansea University offers a dynamic three-year BA in English Literature and Welsh, immersing students in over a thousand years of literary heritage from the Medieval era to the present, including rich Welsh traditions. The programme explores provocative themes such as gender, culture, and multiculturalism, while developing skills in translation and creative writing. Students engage with both English and Welsh languages, studying national and global literature—from protest poetry and Gothic genres to contemporary fiction—under the guidance of renowned writers and scholars, including those linked to the Dylan Thomas legacy.Set in the scenic Gower Peninsula, the course provides opportunities for involvement in cultural projects, study abroad in places like Hong Kong or Canada, and career support through workshops and placements. English Literature ranks 25th in the UK for student satisfaction (Complete University Guide 2024), with 97% of graduates employed or in further study (HESA 2023). Celtic Studies excels, ranking 2nd for research quality and overall (various guides, 2024). Scholarships, including a £3,000 Coleg Cymraeg award, are available.
