Our BA (Hons) in Education and Welsh with a Year Abroad is a three-year, research-led programme tailored for second language students, equipping you with essential skills in Welsh language, multiculturalism, psychology, and social sciences. It focuses on how people learn, educational structures, and lifelong development, drawing from top-ranked Celtic Studies at Swansea, which is 2nd in the UK for Research Quality and Student Satisfaction (Complete University Guide 2024). Education at Swansea ranks in the top 20 for Research Quality, with 95% of graduates employed or in further study 15 months post-graduation (HESA 2023).The curriculum includes compulsory first-year modules like "What is Teaching and Learning" and "Philosophy and Theory in Education," alongside options in child development and diversity. Assessment methods encompass essays, presentations, group work, and examinations. You'll gain practical experience through work placements and spend a year abroad between your second and final years to broaden your skills. What you will learn

"In your first year of your undergraduate Education and Welsh with a Year Abroad (a Pathway for Second Language Students), BA (Hons) degree you will study areas that include contemporary education; the origin and theory of educational research and education in other countries. The majority of first year modules will be compulsory and include:

  • Philosophy and Theory in Education
  • Education Research Skills in Action
Your second and final years will include a mixture of compulsory and optional modules in areas that include child development; educational neuroscience and difference and diversity in education. Examples of compulsory modules from recent years include:
