About the course

Our BA (Hons) in Education and Welsh (a Pathway for Second Language Students) is a dynamic, research-driven three-year programme designed to equip you with essential skills for a fulfilling career in education and language studies. It integrates disciplines such as Welsh language, rights, multiculturalism, literature, psychology, philosophy, and social sciences to explore learning processes, educational structures, and lifelong development. Ranked 2nd in the UK for Celtic Studies overall (Times Good University Guide 2024) and top 20 for Education research quality (Complete University Guide 2024), the course emphasises employability through optional work placements in schools, businesses, and charities, alongside curriculum design and teaching theory. In the first year, you’ll cover compulsory modules like contemporary education and educational research, followed by a mix of topics in child development and diversity in later years, culminating in a research dissertation. Assessment includes essays, presentations, group work, and examinations. A year abroad between your second and final year enhances global experience, though an additional qualification like a PGCE is needed for teaching. For more details, contact study@swansea.ac.uk.
