Computer Science (Software Engineering), MSci (Hons), with industry placement

This five-year MSci programme in Computer Science with Software Engineering, launched in 2015/16, offers a comprehensive foundation in the field, covering the latest trends and hands-on skills through a year in industry. It is ideal for those with programming experience aiming for postgraduate studies or specialised careers, featuring an extended final-year project to showcase abilities.Recognised as best practice by BCS, our teaching involves software professionals and leading academics, applying engineering principles to software design, development, and maintenance. The flexible, industry-informed curriculum includes practical experiments in well-equipped labs. As a research-focused department with awards for diversity, we provide summer placements, personal advising, and strong ties to technology firms in the M4 corridor, with options to transfer if the industry year cannot be completed. Assessment combines examinations and assignments like essays or presentations.
