About the course

The BA (Hons) Visual Effects Art course equips students with advanced skills in integrating live action and digital assets using industry-standard hardware and software. Through collaborative work with game artists, animators, and filmmakers, participants develop artistic VFX expertise, creative invention, and contextual knowledge via 100% coursework. This prepares graduates for careers in screen arts, including roles like 3D modeller, effects artist, or compositor.Students study modules across three years, covering principles of screen arts, VFX compositing, and 3D digital art, with options for electives and a potential placement year. Facilities include collaborative studios, a VR lab, and a new Design & Digital Arts building. Assessment focuses on coursework, with Year Two contributing 20% and the final year 80% to the degree mark.

You will also choose one optional 20-credit module from: Storyboarding Experimental Animation Telling Stories Motion Graphics Digital Matte Painting Performance for Motion Capture Music Video Sound Art & Design [Year three] Optional Placement Year (Sandwich)* We have an option for all of our students to undertake a placement year (Sandwich) and allow you to decide whether this is right for you once you have completed years 1 and 2 of your course. This time spent working in industry provides our students with crucial work experience, which is highly prized and much sought after by employers upon graduation. If you are successful in securing a placement you will have the chance to gain an additional Certificate or Diploma in Professional Practice, dependent on duration.
