About the course

Starting in September 2024, the School of Arts and Humanities, including this course, will relocate to our City Campus, while the course content remains unchanged. Applicants should have received an email detailing any potential impacts. This joint honours degree in Philosophy and Linguistics is designed for students eager to explore diverse perspectives and the influence of language. Philosophy develops critical thinking and argumentation by addressing contemporary issues, fostering clearer analysis of everyday life. Linguistics examines language's role in communication, identity, and societal meaning, with no prior knowledge required. Ranked joint third in the UK for student satisfaction (NSS 2020), the course equips students with research skills in areas like clinical linguistics and language acquisition, preparing them for careers in journalism, law, broadcasting, and speech therapy. Graduates achieve 100% employment or further study within six months (DLHE 2016/17). Modules are listed on our website.
