About the course

Education has the power to transform lives, and this BA (Hons) in Education Studies and Psychology at NTU equips students to understand education's importance while exploring psychological factors that influence learning. The interdisciplinary programme addresses contemporary issues such as well-being, mental health, social media, and relationships, fostering skills in psychological theory applied to diverse educational settings. Students examine processes for educating various learners, including those with special needs, looked-after children, and refugees, preparing them for careers in public sectors, welfare, mainstream education, or alternative provisions like hospitals and prisons.The course covers modules on well-being, cognitive psychology, social development, and research methods, with options to tailor studies to personal interests. In Year Two, a 30-day placement enhances employability, and students can pursue research projects or progress to postgraduate paths in teaching or educational psychology. Assessments focus on varied methods without formal exams, emphasizing practical skills and critical engagement with local, national, and international perspectives on lifelong learning and development.

What you will learn

In Year One, you’ll study the following modules: Wellbeing and Mental Health in Education; Cognitive Psychology and the Classroom; Education Foundation; Learning and Education in Practice; Introduction to Lifespan Developmental Psychology; and Academic Writing and Study Skills. In Year Two, you’ll study the following modules: Social Development in Children and Adolescence; Work based learning and Professional Practice; Inclusive Education and Practice; Research Methods in Education; Lifelong Learning in Education; and Creating and Analysing Survey Data. In Year Three you’ll study the following core modules: Research Project; The Psychology of Educational Support and Therapy; and Improving Language and Literacy in Schools. You’ll also study the following optional modules: Global and Comparative Education; Learning Behaviours and Motivation; Social Emotional Learning in Education; and Working with Diverse communities in the Context of Education.
