About the course

Civil engineers creatively address real-world challenges by designing essential infrastructure, from bridges and roads to hospitals and train stations. This course builds your grasp of engineering principles and their practical application, fostering advanced technical skills, mathematical proficiency, people management, and expertise in design, sustainability, health, and safety through hands-on projects, theory, and placements.Key features include industry-standard labs for concrete, materials, hydraulics, geotechnics, and structural testing; applied projects with partners like nmcn, Severn Trent Water, and Nottingham City Council; accreditation fully meeting Incorporated Engineer (IEng) requirements and partially for Chartered Engineer (CEng)*; and optional one-year placements at firms such as VolkerFitzpatrick and BAM Nuttall. NTU ranks 2nd globally for sustainability (UI GreenMetric 2023), with 100% student satisfaction in skill development (NSS 2024) and UK #1 employability (Uni Compare 2025).*A programme of accredited Further Learning, such as MSc or MEng Civil Engineering, is required for full CEng status.
