About the course

Our BSc (Hons) Medicinal and Pharmaceutical Chemistry degree provides a solid foundation in general chemistry, research methods, and laboratory techniques, while equipping students with specialised skills for drug discovery. Developed in collaboration with the pharmaceutical industry, the curriculum emphasises essential employer-demanded competencies, including drug testing, efficacy evaluation, computer-based drug design, mechanisms of action, and pharmaceutical quality control. Students can opt for an additional year abroad at partner universities or an industry placement to broaden their horizons.Key features include a £115 million investment in the new Dalton building to enhance teaching and collaboration, plus £500,000 in lab upgrades with state-of-the-art equipment. The programme incorporates technological innovations like VR simulations, online homework with feedback, and embedded career activities. Options for a four-year route with international study or placement exist, and high-performing students can transition to an integrated MChem degree after Year 2, informed by research in sustainable health solutions.
