Studying History with us covers an expansive range of eras and regions, from ancient Egypt, Greece, and Rome to the medieval world, Tudors, Americas, China, India, and modern global conflicts. Taught by leading historians with expertise in social, cultural, political, military, and heritage topics, the flexible programme enables you to develop specialisms across ancient to modern periods and geographies including Europe, Africa, Asia, and the Americas. You will gain research skills through original projects with real-world impact, including collaborations with tutors, communities, museums, and galleries. A foundation year is available.As one of the UK's largest history centres, we offer increasing flexibility with optional modules, an Independent History Project, employer-linked assessments fostering critical thinking, research, and practical skills like placements and public history. Research-led teaching from the Department of History, Politics and Philosophy, home to the Manchester Centre for Public History and Heritage, ensures cutting-edge learning. Opportunities include a third-year industry placement or study abroad.
