About the course

As a BA (Hons) English and Film student, you will explore literature and film from the Renaissance to contemporary global, digital, and multimedia contexts. Analysing diverse forms, you will examine how they reflect and shape society, alongside connections to art, music, and popular culture. Our decolonised curriculum fosters critical questioning of assumptions and the importance of representation.Immersed in Manchester—a UNESCO City of Literature—you will develop critical thinking, creativity, and industry networks through partnerships with creative organisations. Guided by leading researchers, including award-winning poets and Costa/Ted Hughes winners, you will engage in live projects, festivals like the Manchester Children’s Book Festival, and global cinema. Our world-class department (70% research impact world-leading, REF21) offers study abroad or placements, building transferable skills for diverse careers.
