About the course

As computing technology permeates homes, workplaces, and public services, cybercrime grows more prevalent and perilous. Our BSc (Hons) Cyber Security equips you to counter it by investigating breaches, implementing secure systems, and specializing in attack identification, mitigation, network intrusion detection, ethical hacking, applied cryptography, and legal/ethical considerations. You will also master core computing fundamentals—programming, mathematics, databases, networks, and operating systems—while honing logical thinking and problem-solving through extensive group work. Graduates emerge with in-demand skills for public and private sectors. A foundation year option is available. This industry-aligned curriculum, developed with employer input, positions you in the thriving cyber security field. As an academic partner of the Chartered Institute of Information Security (CIISec), our Department of Computing and Mathematics offers a four-year placement route, professional team projects, extracurriculars like hackathons, and state-of-the-art facilities in the £115 million Dalton building, including high-spec labs and a dedicated drop-in space.
