About the course

Our BSc (Hons) Computer Science degree provides a comprehensive understanding of computing theory and technical elements, focusing on programming, algorithms, data structures, and computer architecture. Designed to align with industry demands, the curriculum ensures graduates possess sought-after skills. In the initial year, students explore foundational topics such as programming, computing mathematics, web development, computer architectures, and databases, while developing teamwork and communication abilities. Progression includes specialised areas like networks, operating systems, and software development processes, culminating in advanced studies in artificial intelligence and programming paradigms. A major project allows students to apply and refine their skills. The programme offers a four-year placement option for a third-year industrial placement to enhance employability, subject to availability. It shares a common first year with BSc (Hons) Software Engineering and BSc (Hons) Applied Computing, enabling transfers based on interests. Students engage in group projects and extracurricular activities like hackathons and gaming events. Enhanced facilities, including a new Dalton building with advanced labs, high-specification equipment, and dedicated support spaces, ensure access to cutting-edge resources for collaborative learning and professional development.
