About the course

Our BSc (Hons) Chemistry degree integrates hands-on laboratory experience with classroom learning, delivering specialist knowledge in core areas such as inorganic, organic, physical, and analytical chemistry, alongside fields like synthetic chemistry, catalysis, materials chemistry, and green chemistry. The industry-aligned curriculum develops essential skills, including independent experiment planning, data interpretation, and problem-solving for real-world applications. Options include a foundation year, an additional placement year in industry, or study abroad with partner universities (subject to availability), with a four-year route available. High-achieving students may transfer to the integrated MChem after Year 2.We have invested over £115 million in the Dalton building, featuring world-class facilities, enhanced labs with industry-standard equipment, and technological supports like VR simulations, specialist software, videos, and an online homework system for targeted feedback. Embedded career activities build employability, while research in hydrogen fuel cells, biosensors, drug discovery, and environmental monitoring informs teaching for sustainable solutions.
