In the past five years, automotive technologies have evolved dramatically, with electrification and connectivity driving industry advancements. Manufacturers are under pressure to adopt digital engineering to streamline processes and reduce costs. Loughborough's Automotive Engineering programme, offered by our renowned Department of Aeronautical and Automotive Engineering, equips students with specialised knowledge through industry-aligned teaching. Drawing on over 50 years of collaboration with UK industries, the course integrates automotive-specific examples from the start, covering topics like new powertrain architectures, battery technology, machine intelligence, and foundational areas such as aerodynamics and materials.Practical elements are central, including hands-on sessions at facilities like HORIBA MIRA for vehicle testing, alongside opportunities to develop teamwork and management skills through projects like designing future vehicles. The MEng and BEng degrees share the first two years, but MEng offers deeper study, including modern languages, and extends to four or five years with a placement option. Students can transfer between programmes up to the end of the second year if criteria are met, ensuring graduates are prepared for careers in this dynamic field.
