About the course

This design-led course, rooted in the esteemed School of Architectural, Building and Civil Engineering, builds a strong foundation in engineering principles applied to architectural design. It merges architectural creativity with engineering rigour, enabling students to oversee the entire building process from concept to construction. Through interactive studies in environmental, structural, and architectural design, integrated with humanistic subjects via collaborative projects, students develop skills in building materials, mechanics, physics, and environmental systems. Opportunities for site visits, study trips, and insights from industry experts enhance practical perspectives. The BEng programme focuses on core engineering fundamentals and architectural design, offering a shorter duration ideal for early career entry or further MSc specialisation, with an option to transfer to the MEng after two years. The MEng extends expertise through advanced design projects, automated construction methods, and environmental building roles. Assessment includes individual and group coursework, design outputs, essays, presentations, and exams, fostering skills from sketching to BIM and finite element analysis.
